iPhone 13 Battery Life: Do Bigger Batteries Last Longer

Every iPhone came with its features and improvements. Among these, battery capacity should always be one of the most popular topics. We believe a bigger capacity means more power and longer life. But does a larger battery really endure long? Let's take iPhone 13 for example.

How Large Is the iPhone 13 Battery?

The iPhone 13 has a 3227 mAh battery, increasing 412mAh from iPhone 12.  iPhone 13 Pro Max has a 4352mAh battery, 665mAh bigger than its predecessor. iPhone 13 Pro uses 3095mAh, and iPhone 13 mini uses a 2435mAh battery, only a slight capacity increase compared to their previous models.

Does a Larger Battery Mean a Longer Battery Life?

A larger battery has more capacity, measured through milliampere-hours (mAh) or watt-hours (Wh). More capacity means more power for your device. However, this only really works when you compare two devices with the same hardware and software doing the same tasks.

Battery life is a little more complex. The battery juices up your phone while the device is consuming power. Every piece of hardware inside the smartphone needs power to execute an action from the processor to display, from cellular antennas to camera sensors.

60Hz vs 120Hz display

Some hardware and features consume more power than others. Aside from bigger batteries, iPhone users have been beating the drum for a 120Hz display (compared with the current 60Hz), providing smoother motion and transitions.

In a nutshell, higher performance requires more power.

To guarantee decent performance and battery life, Apple uses A15 bionic chips in the iPhone 13 lineup. The A15 chip offers better power efficiency than the A14 chip used in the iPhone 12.

In conclusion, capacity alone is not a guarantee of extended battery life. Apple doesn't broadcast the battery capacity of iPhones but instead states how many hours of video and audio playback you can get. How long your phone's battery can last is also greatly influenced by applications and contents, meaning that some phones may drain the battery slower than those with more capacity.

Battery Life is a Subjective Term.

Some applications indeed drain more power than others, and you can adjust them to stop your phone battery from draining fast.

But whether battery life is sufficient enough or not, it all comes down to how much you rely on your phone.

The iPhone 12 mini has a small battery compared to other models, and for some, this isn't an issue. For others a 20%-by-midday nightmare.

I usually get a full day out of my iPhone 12 mini with a handy 10-20% left when I get home at night. I watch YouTube or browse Reddit during my commute, lunch break, and when I get home, about four hours of screen time a day. I consider myself a heavy phone user, but some may not agree.

That said, we can all use some extra power. If you do something outside your routine, you might need more juice for taking photos and videos, as well as messaging with friends. It's always beneficial to invest in a backup just in case there's an emergency in our daily routine.
